Opened by Jozo Weider in 1941, the renowned Blue Mountain Ski Resort is marking its 75th anniversary with a series of historical installations, artwork and events throughout the year. The kick-off event, Celebrate 75, will take place on January 21 and 22 and will include family-friendly activities both on-hill and in the Village. Highlights of the celebration include live music in the Village, “groove dancing,” wagon rides, maple taffy on snow, scavenger hunts, a torchlight parade, retro fashion show and fireworks. As part of the Celebrate 75 celebration Blue Mountain will be auctioning off six retired L-Hill quad chairlifts that have been retro-fitted as stand-alone benches and decorated with one-of-a-kind artwork by local artists. The live auction will be held in the Village Event Plaza January 21 with proceeds being donated to the Blue Mountain Special Olympics Alpine Team. In 1955 Blue Mountain built its first modern lift, The North Poma, while its first chairlift, the Old South chair, was installed in 1959.
