Ski bunnies can now stay warm on their way up the hill at Sunshine Village and Snowboard Resort in Banff, Alberta thanks to the addition of a heated chairlift. Located on Lookout Mountain, the Teepee Town LX lift marks the first heated chairlift in the country and includes footrests, heated seats and orange bubble covers to block the wind and cold from permeating the warmth inside. Moving at a speed of 5.08 metres per second, the lift is able to move as many as 1,200 skiers up the mountain every hour. To ensure the construction of the lift caused as little environmental impact as possible, the resort worked closely with Parks Canada to obtain a building permit and conduct an extensive environmental analysis, opting to use helicopters and a walking excavator to minimize the impact on wildlife and vegetation in the area.
