Local author and Burlington resident Jennifer Mook-Sang is releasing her debut book with the launch of Speechless. Published by Scholastic, Speechless is a humorous novel for children ages 9 to 12 that follows Joe Alton Miles, nicknamed Jelly due to his initials J.A.M., as he decides to compete in, and win, the annual sixth grade speech contest. After overcoming the terror of being in the spotlight Jelly must then face the wrath of the smart and popular Victoria who believes the prize, like all prizes, is rightfully hers. As things escalate, Jelly quickly realizes its not just the prize at stake but also his reputation, self-respect and the friendships he values most. The book launch and meet the author event for Speechless will take place on Sunday, October 4 at 2pm at A Different Drummer books in Burlington.
