Finding that infection is the leading cause of death among mothers and newborns worldwide, TOMS decided to make a difference. The latest effort in the TOMS One for One business model brings us the Bag Collection featuring the Artisan, Travel-inspired and Campus and Tech lines ranging from $30 to $328. For every bag purchased, TOMS will help provide a safe birth for both mother and child in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Haiti and India by partnering with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), BRAC, ayzh and Every Mother Counts to help provide training for skilled birth attendants along with access to safe birth kits that will supply vital materials like soap, gloves, gauze, cord clamps, surgical blades and a clean surface to help women safely give birth. It's estimated by UNFPA that by providing the right tools and skills for clean birthing conditions nearly half a million lives can be saved each year. “While in the field, I've met mothers and entire families who have been affected by the physical and emotional repercussions of giving birth alone or in unsafe environments,” says TOMS Founder Blake Mycoskie. “We feel it's our responsibility to change this through the TOMS business model, and we're so proud to be able to present the first One for One product that can actually help save lives.”
